Petronila L. Gonzalez, 96, of Perth Amboy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Yaque Abajo, Dominican Republic, Petronila was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and devoted her time to serving her community. In her homeland, she was an active member of her parish, where she played a key role in various church ministries. She guided and mentored young girls as part of the “Hijas de María” group, sang in the choir, and participated in the religious education program.
A devoted mother, Petronila was known for her strength, discipline, and wisdom, which she instilled in her children. She found joy in the simple things in life, especially knitting and embroidery, and continued her devotion to the Church as a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Perth Amboy.
Petronila was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roque Amantino Gonzalez, and her parents, Jacinto Diaz and Lorenza Batista.
She is survived by her nine loving children: Amantino de la Cruz, Sergio Ramiro, Mateo Evangelista, Carmen, Eugenia Miguelina, Francisca G., Juana Evangelista, Lourdes Bernarda, and Martha Reyna. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great pride and joy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ana Maria Zevallos/Skrocki Home for Funerals, 467 State Street, Perth Amboy. Funeral services will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery in Fords.
Petronila will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to her family, and the enduring love she shared with all who knew her.
