Father Nicolás Francisco Noreña Rendón, 67, of Perth Amboy, died on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Hackensack Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Father Nicolás was born in Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia. He was born into a family filled with love; he was the eldest among his siblings.

He completed his primary education at the Rural School of Santa Bárbara and his secondary education at the Industrial High School of the Municipality of Marinilla. He always stood out as an excellent student—disciplined, humble, caring, and creative—and especially for his contagious joy wherever he went. His classmates remember him as a great human being and an excellent friend who was always a leader in their gatherings, alumni reunions, and group activities.

From a young age, he knew and felt that he would serve the Lord. So much so that his salary had two purposes: to help support his parents and siblings at home, and to save money to pay for the seminar. His parents, having very limited financial resources, were unable to afford it.

When he had finally saved enough and felt that the time had come—answering God’s call—his priestly vocation led him to the Cristo Sacerdote Seminary, located in the municipality of La Ceja, Antioquia. There, he was formed as a man of faith, grounded in hope and charity, with a strong vocation of service to others. He was ordained to the priesthood on November 20, 1994.

During his priestly ministry, he served in the municipality of San Rafael at San Rafael Archangel Parish for four years, and in the municipality of San Vicente Ferrer at Our Lady of Chiquinquirá Parish for three years.

His greatest work of faith as one consecrated to Christ was what he carried out in his own home with his family, where he granted almost all his siblings, nieces and nephews, in-laws, and parents the blessing of the sacraments and constant prayer for their lives.

God made His final call. His arrival from Colombia to La Asunción in 2002 brought with it a renewed spirit—an enthusiasm and zeal that rekindled our shared faith and strengthened our rich cultural and devotional traditions. Through his leadership, our liturgies were enriched, our parish groups were strengthened, and our community grew in unity and faith.

Father Nicolás was a constant presence among the sick, a source of comfort to the dying, and a compassionate guide for those who mourned. He walked with his people in moments of joy and in times of sorrow, always offering spiritual care with kindness and dedication.

He also contributed greatly to the life of his parish through his tireless efforts, including coordinating our annual “Super 50-50” raffle, helping to sustain and support the community. His joy—especially during the annual Christmas concert in honor of the Infant Jesus—was truly contagious, creating a cherished tradition that brought together families of all ages in celebration and faith.

His words uplifted hearts, inspired hope, and deepened the faith of all who listened. Through his life and ministry, he became a true witness of Christ’s love.

With profound gratitude and deep respect, we thank Father Nicolás for his 24 years of faithful priestly service to Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish.

He lived out his priestly service for a total of 31 years and 4 months, during which he always taught us the importance of love for God and for Our Blessed Mother, especially under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose name he proudly bore (Nicolás Francisco Guadalupe Noreña Rendón).

The greatest gift and comfort for his mother was realizing that her son was loved just as much as she loved him, and that he was always where he wanted to be—a place where he was cherished and welcomed.

You will always be in our hearts. We are certain that you have been reunited with your father, your brother David, and other family members and friends.

His mother, a woman full of faith and kindness, awaits him with deep sorrow, but also with a love and gratitude that only a mother can feel for her child. She says she has nothing but words of thanks for her “boy,” her “dear little son,” her “beloved child.”.

Predeceased by his father, Francisco Luis Noreña, and his brother, Fray David Noreña.

He is survived by his mother, Deyanira Rendón; his three brothers: Fray David Noreña and his wife, Liliana Ramírez; Jhon Dairo Noreña and his wife, Rosmira Ocampo; and Javier Noreña and his wife, Juliana Ospina; and his five sisters: Alba and her husband, Luis Aguilar; Myriam and her husband, Juan Pedro Castaño; Martha and her husband, Juan Feltrin; Silvia Noreña; and Josefina Noreña.

He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews: Juan Camilo Castaño and his wife, Viviana Hernández; Natalia Castaño Noreña and her husband, Miguel Ángel Pinto; Edwin Otálvaro; Steven Otálvaro; Verónica and her husband, Jason Prisco; Mauricio Noreña; Elizabeth Aguilar and her husband, Alexander Burgos; Michelle Noreña and her husband, Juan David Echeverri; Christian Feltrin and his wife, María Fernanda Hencker; Leidy Loaiza; Laura Loaiza; Andrés Noreña; Melissa Noreña; Cristian Noreña; and Karen Noreña.

He is further survived by his great-nieces and great-nephews: Juan Emilio Castaño, Valeria Castaño, Mariángel Pinto, Cecilia Prisco, Tomás Prisco, and Cristóbal Echeverri.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 315 Lawrie Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, followed by a 7:00 p.m. Mass.

Burial will take place in Colombia.

May the Lord, whom he served so faithfully, welcome him into His eternal Kingdom.

El Padre Nicolás Francisco Noreña Rendón, de 67 años, de Perth Amboy, falleció el domingo 22 de marzo de 2026 en el Hospital Hackensack, rodeado de su familia.

El Padre Nicolás nació en Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia. Nació en una familia llena de amor; fue el mayor de sus hermanos.

Realizó sus estudios de primaria en la Escuela Rural de Santa Bárbara y la secundaria en el Colegio Industrial del municipio de Marinilla. Siempre se destacó por ser un excelente estudiante—disciplinado, humilde, cariñoso y creativo—y especialmente por su alegría contagiosa dondequiera que iba. Sus compañeros lo recuerdan como un gran ser humano y un excelente amigo, que siempre fue líder en sus encuentros, reuniones de egresados y actividades grupales.

Desde muy joven supo y sintió que serviría al Señor. Tanto así que su salario tenía dos propósitos: ayudar a su hogar, a sus padres y hermanos, y ahorrar para pagar el seminario. Sus padres, con recursos económicos muy limitados, no tenían la manera de hacerlo.

Cuando finalmente logró ahorrar lo suficiente y sintió que era el momento—respondiendo al llamado de Dios—su vocación sacerdotal lo llevó al Seminario Cristo Sacerdote, ubicado en el municipio de La Ceja, Antioquia. Allí se formó como un hombre de fe, fundamentado en la esperanza y la caridad, con una fuerte vocación de servicio a los demás. Fue ordenado sacerdote el 20 de noviembre de 1994.

Durante su ministerio sacerdotal, sirvió en el municipio de San Rafael, en la Parroquia San Rafael Arcángel, durante cuatro años, y en el municipio de San Vicente Ferrer, en la Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá, durante tres años.

Su mayor obra de fe como consagrado a Cristo fue la que realizó en su propio hogar con su familia, donde regaló a casi todos sus hermanos, sobrinos, cuñados y padres la bendición de los sacramentos y la oración constante por sus vidas.

Dios hizo su último llamado. Su llegada desde Colombia a La Asunción en el año 2002 trajo consigo un espíritu renovado—un entusiasmo y un celo que reavivaron nuestra fe compartida y fortalecieron nuestras ricas tradiciones culturales y devocionales. A través de su liderazgo, nuestras liturgias se enriquecieron, nuestros grupos parroquiales se fortalecieron y nuestra comunidad creció en unidad y fe.

El Padre Nicolás fue una presencia constante entre los enfermos, un consuelo para los moribundos y un guía compasivo para quienes estaban de duelo. Caminó con su pueblo en los momentos de alegría y en los tiempos de tristeza, ofreciendo siempre acompañamiento espiritual con bondad y dedicación.

También contribuyó enormemente a la vida de su parroquia a través de sus incansables esfuerzos, incluyendo la coordinación de nuestra rifa anual “Super 50-50”, ayudando a sostener y apoyar a la comunidad. Su alegría—especialmente durante el concierto anual de Navidad en honor al Niño Jesús—era verdaderamente contagiosa, creando una tradición entrañable que reunía a familias de todas las edades en celebración y fe.

Sus palabras levantaban los corazones, inspiraban esperanza y profundizaban la fe de todos los que lo escuchaban. A través de su vida y ministerio, se convirtió en un verdadero testimonio del amor de Cristo.

Con profunda gratitud y gran respeto, agradecemos al Padre Nicolás por sus 24 años de fiel servicio sacerdotal en la Parroquia del Santísimo Nombre de Jesús.

Vivió su servicio sacerdotal durante un total de 31 años y 4 meses, tiempo en el que siempre nos enseñó la importancia del amor a Dios y a Nuestra Santísima Madre, especialmente bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, cuyo nombre llevaba con orgullo (Nicolás Francisco Guadalupe Noreña Rendón).

El mayor regalo y consuelo para su madre fue darse cuenta de que su hijo era amado tanto como ella lo amaba, y que siempre estuvo donde quiso estar: en un lugar donde fue querido y acogido.

Siempre estarás en nuestros corazones. Estamos seguros de que te has reunido con tu padre, con tu hermano David y con otros familiares y amigos.

Su madre, una mujer llena de fe y bondad, lo espera con profunda tristeza, pero también con un amor y una gratitud que solo una madre puede sentir por su hijo. Ella expresa que no tiene más que palabras de agradecimiento para su “niño”, su “hijito querido”, su “amado hijo”.

Le precedieron en la muerte su padre, Francisco Luis Noreña, y su hermano, Fray David Noreña.

Le sobreviven su madre, Deyanira Rendón; sus tres hermanos: Fray David Noreña y su esposa Liliana Ramírez; Jhon Dairo Noreña y su esposa Rosmira Ocampo; y Javier Noreña y su esposa Juliana Ospina; y sus cinco hermanas: Alba y su esposo Luis Aguilar; Myriam y su esposo Juan Pedro Castaño; Martha y su esposo Juan Feltrin; Silvia Noreña; y Josefina Noreña.

También le sobreviven 15 sobrinos: Juan Camilo Castaño y su esposa Viviana Hernández; Natalia Castaño Noreña y su esposo Miguel Ángel Pinto; Edwin Otálvaro; Steven Otálvaro; Verónica y su esposo Jason Prisco; Mauricio Noreña; Elizabeth Aguilar y su esposo Alexander Burgos; Michelle Noreña y su esposo Juan David Echeverri; Christian Feltrin y su esposa María Fernanda Hencker; Leidy Loaiza; Laura Loaiza; Andrés Noreña; Melissa Noreña; Cristian Noreña; y Karen Noreña.

Asimismo, le sobreviven sus sobrinos nietos: Juan Emilio Castaño, Valeria Castaño, Mariángel Pinto, Cecilia Prisco, Tomás Prisco y Cristóbal Echeverri.

La velación se llevará a cabo el viernes 27 de marzo de 2026, de 4:00 p.m. a 6:30 p.m., en la Iglesia Holy Trinity, 315 Lawrie Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, seguida de la Santa Misa a las 7:00 p.m.

El sepelio se realizará en Colombia.
