Maria Cobena Obituary

Maria Esther Cobena was born in Ecuador on February 14, 1935 and passed away on December 11th, 2021 at the age of 86 after a long battle with progressive dementia. She died peacefully, with her family by her side.

Maria Esther was an elementary school teacher for 38 years where was tremendously loved by the many children she taught for nearly four decades.

She was an active member of the Catholic Church where she actively organized group prayers taking it upon herself to visit the sick and dying.
Maria Esther had multiple recognitions throughout her career for excellence on her teaching abilities while helping the community, she learned the trade of nursing assistance and made routine home visits. She also had a wonderful voice and enjoyed singing school events, family events and during those unforgettable  long family car rides.After retiring from teaching, she opened a textile store where she pursued her passion for fabrics and design.

Maria Esther is survived by her husband of 56 years, Arcangel Cobena; children, twin sisters Gina and Yule, twin brothers Stalin, Javier and the youngest Sandra; grandchildren, other extended family, and lifelong friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 17,2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Ana María Zevallos/Skrocki, Home for Funerals, 467 State street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861, Burial will take place at Clover Leaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodbridge.

Due to family wishes, services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in María Esther’s memory to the Dementia Association of America, 188 N Main Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.

Maria Esther Cobena nació en Ecuador el 14 de Febrero de 1935 y falleció el 11 de Diciembre de 2021. a la edad de 86 años después de una larga batalla contra la demencia progresiva. Murio  en Paz, con su familia a su lado.

Maria Esther fue maestra de escuela primaria durante 38 años, donde fue muy querida por los niños, padres de familia y comunidad. Ella era un miembro activo de la iglesia católica donde organizó activamente oraciones en grupo, asumiendo la responsabilidad de visitar a los enfermos y moribundos.

Maria Esther tuvo múltiple reconocimientos a lo largo de su carrera por la excelencia en sus habilidades de enseñanza mientras ayudaba a la comunidad, aprendió el oficio de la asistencia de enfermería y realizó visitas domiciliarias de rutina. También tenía una voz maravillosa y disfrutaba cantando en eventos escolares, eventos familiares y durante esos inolvidables viajes largos en automóvil con su familia. Después de retirarse de la docencia, abrió una tienda textil donde persiguió su pasión por las telas y el diseño.

A Maria Esther le sobreviven su esposo de 56 años de matrimonio, Arcangel Cobena ; sus hijos, hermanas gemelas Gina y Yule, hermanos gemelos Stalin, Javier y la menor Sandra; nietos, otros familiares extendidos y amigos de toda la vida.

A pedido de la familia los servicios serán privados. En lugar de flores, se pueden hacer donaciones en memoria de Maria Esther a la Dementia Association of America, 188 N Main St., Doylestown, PA 18901.
