Obituary

María Teresa Antonia Urquijo Urquijo (Acevedo), 91, of Perth Amboy, passed away peacefully with her loving children by her side on June 14, 2023, at her residence.

María Teresa Antonia Urquijo Urquijo, better known as María Acevedo, among the friends she made in this country and by Teresita Urquijo among her friends in Cuba, was born on June 13, 1932 in a small but very active town in the Province of las Villas, called Cruces. This town never strayed from her heart, especially in the last days of her life. She asked every day when we were going to return to which there was no answer. She attended the María Inmaculada School of which she had great memories. She graduated from eighth grade with very good grades.

Her parents were Eusebio and Santiaga Urquijo and her brother, Enrique Francisco. She married Jesús Acevedo, deceased, with whom she had two children, Sara Teresa and Jorge Luis, married to Yasmina. They have a son named William, her grandson, who in turn is married to Jennifer and they have two boys Xavier and Damián, her great-grandsons, all of whom survive her.

She was always a simple person, dedicated and concerned about serving whoever in need, she never had a gesture or a bad word for anyone. For this reason and also for being a woman of great faith, she is remembered. This was inherited from her mother who spared no effort to serve others and to give glory to God.

Upon arriving in this country, she became a member of the Nuestra Señora de Fátima Parish, later on member of the Holy Name of Jesus, and finally of Saint John Paul II. She belonged to the Ministry of Ladies of the Altar in Fatima as well as Auxiliary of the Legion of Mary, to date. She also helped a lot in the catechism of said parish where she was most needed. She was very good at sewing so she made various ornaments for the Church of Fatima and for the Tabernacle of the Convent. The values most highlighted were her sense of humor, her righteousness, her sense of duty, her fidelity, and her dedication to God and her family until the last days of her life.
