Jesus Manuel, Marrero “Chu”, 77, of Perth Amboy, passed away on February 1, 2021 at JFK Medical Center, Edison.
He was born in, Naguabo, Puerto Rico. Came to Perth Amboy, New Jersey as a child. He was an active member of Fatima church and La Asuncion Church.
Graduated from Perth Amboy High School. Earned Honorable Discharge after having served 4 years in the Marine Corps Branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, during Vietnam era.
Worked for the Perth Amboy Police Department for 31 years, 10 of them as detective at the Juvenile Aid Bureau, his last 11 years as a Sergeant at the Community Policing Unit.
He was a member of the Perth Amboy Board of Education, and very involved in several community affairs that he cherished.
Jesus had many passions throughout his life. One being music, especially salsa. He danced competitive salsa in his younger years. He was a self-taught guitarist and vocalist.
Jesus was a great athlete. As a high school student, he was the first Puerto Rican to play on the Perth Amboy Football Team and Wrestling Team; and played on the baseball team. His passion for baseball was evidenced by his long membership on the Baseball Puerto Rico League of Perth Amboy and NJ Over-30 Baseball League as a catcher. He is survived by his wife, Elba Marrero; his children; Annette Marrero-Lippiatt, Cynthia Marrero, and Amanda Marrero; his Step-children; Lixie Y. Martinez-Gomez, and Jose R. Martinez;
his grandchildren; Julian Marrero, and Jordan Perez; his sister Aida Padilla. And many nieces, nephews, and cousins..
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 7, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Ana Maria Zevallos/Skrocki Home for Funerals, 467 State Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 8, 2021, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 AM Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church Church.
Burial will take place in Alpine Cemetery.
All visitors must wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing rules at all times. We are asking visitors to limit their time in the funeral home to allow the family the maximum amount of guests possible
