Hipolita Flores Diaz of Santillana, 84, of Perth Amboy, passed peacefully, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Roosevelt Care Center in Edison.
She was born on February 3rd 1937 in Arequipa Peru. Daughter of Flavio Flores and Maria Diaz, she became an orphan at a young age and had to take on the role as a parent to her younger siblings. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, and children. Hipolita met Felipe Raul Santillana in Lima Peru. He was the brother of one of her friends and co-worker. They quickly fell in love and got married in June 1960. She came to the United States with her husband as a tourist in 1995 after being invited by her youngest son Adolfo. They fell in love with America and later on became permanent residents and eventually became US citizens.
Nothing made her happier than being around her grandchildren and raising them. She lived happily watching over them, cooking for them, and taking care of her sons. She loved children so much that she even babysat other family member’s children until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s around 2003. After the death of her husband in 2005, her disease advanced very quickly until the day of her death.
She will always be remembered for inner joy, kindness, beautiful smile and all the love she gave to her family, friends, and loved ones. She will forever be truly missed and be remembered as “MAMITA POLA” by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her three sons; Miguel Raul Santillana and his wife Angelina, Ramon Juan Santillana and his wife Isabel, and Adolfo Alberto Santillana and his wife Ruth Ines. Hipolita was blessed with 5 grandchildren; Diana, Raul, Ramon, Adolfo, and Leslie.
