Graciana Arce

Graciana Arce, 75, of Monroe Township, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at HMH Old Bridge Medical Center. Graciana was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico on April 10, 1949, and moved to the United States with her mother in 1956. She was employed by Costco Wholesale for over 25 years and enjoyed her lifelong hobbies of gardening, sewing, crafting, and cooking well into her retirement. She will be remembered for her entrepreneurial spirit as proven by testimonials from the loyal patrons of her legendary empanadas, decorative crafts, and floral arrangements that she personally created throughout the years. There was no limit to the extent of her giving nature. She was not only a devoted caregiver to her own children but also touched the lives of many others’ children throughout the numerous years she served as a babysitter in her private home. Most notable of her unbounded love and dedication to her family were the years she served as primary caregiver to her own mother up until her passing in 2019. Her generosity and easygoing nature will forever be an inspiration to all the lives she touched and had the pleasure of knowing her. She truly lived up to the meaning of her name:  Inspired by grace (eloquence or beauty of form, kindness, mercy, favor), which is derived from the Latin gratia (favor, thanks).

Graciana was predeceased by her parents: Margarita Villanueva and Alejo Quiles, and 3 brothers: Angel Emilio Quiles, Sixto Quiles, and Reinaldo Quiles. She is survived by her 4 sisters: Confesora Quiles, Luz Celenia Quiles, Emilia Quiles and Digna Quiles, her 3 children: Angel Arce and his wife Robin, Lourdes Arce, and Amy and her husband Mike James, 6 grandchildren: Gabrielle and Junior Soto, Aziel, Jocelyn, Evan, and Malcolm James.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 4 – 8 PM at Ana Maria Zevallos/Skrocki Home for Funerals, 467 State Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM mass at Our Lady of Fatima.

Burial will take place at Alpine Cemetery in Perth Amboy, NJ.

Graciana Arce, de 75 años, del municipio de Monroe, falleció el miércoles 4 de septiembre de 2024 en el HMH Old Bridge Medical Center. Graciana nació en San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, el 10 de abril de 1949 y se mudó a los Estados Unidos con su madre en 1956. Trabajó en Costco Wholesale durante más de 25 años y disfrutó de sus pasatiempos de toda la vida: la jardinería, la costura, la artesanía y la cocina, hasta bien entrada su jubilación. Será recordada por su espíritu emprendedor, como lo demuestran los testimonios de los leales clientes de sus legendarias empanadas, artesanías decorativas y arreglos florales que ella personalmente creó a lo largo de los años. No había límite en el alcance de su naturaleza generosa. No solo fue una cuidadora devota de sus propios hijos, sino que también influyó en las vidas de los hijos de muchos otros durante los numerosos años que trabajó como niñera en su casa privada. Lo más notable de su amor ilimitado y dedicación a su familia fueron los años que sirvió como cuidadora principal de su propia madre hasta su fallecimiento en 2019. Su generosidad y naturaleza tranquila siempre serán una inspiración para todas las vidas que tocó y tuvo el placer de conocerla. Ella verdaderamente estuvo a la altura del significado de su nombre: Inspirada por la gracia (elocuencia o belleza de la forma, bondad, misericordia, favor), que se deriva del latín gratia (favor, gracias).

Graciana fue precedida por sus padres: Margarita Villanueva y Alejo Quiles, y 3 hermanos: Ángel Emilio Quiles, Sixto Quiles y Reinaldo Quiles. Le sobreviven sus 4 hermanas: Confesora Quiles, Luz Celenia Quiles, Emilia Quiles y Digna Quiles; sus 3 hijos: Angel Arce y su esposa Robin, Lourdes Arce y Amy y su esposo Mike James, así como sus 6 nietos: Gabrielle y Junior Soto, Aziel, Jocelyn, Evan y Malcolm James.
