It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edilia Alvarez a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, and cherished member of our community, who left us on Saturday January 11, 2025, after bravely battling lung cancer.
Edilia was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic. She was the matriarch of her family and a beacon of love and strength to all who knew her. The first of her siblings to immigrate to the United States she made it her mission to help all of her family come to the US and in doing so paved the way for generations to follow. As a devoted mother, she nurtured her children with unwavering support and unconditional love, instilling in them the values of faith, love for family, kindness and compassion. She was a loving grandmother whose heart overflowed with pride for her granddaughters. She took great delight in sharing stories with them and creating lasting memories that they will cherish forever.
She was an incredible sister, an amazing aunt, and a loving friend, who always brought joy and warmth to family gatherings, where her laughter and wisdom would light up the room.
Her greatest joy came from her unwavering dedication to serving God and her community. As a devout member of her church, Our Lady of Fatima, Edilia was actively involved in various ministries and often visited the sick and needy, bringing comfort and hope to those in distress. As a member of her church’s choir her voice rang out filling hearts with music and joy, and her spirit of service touched countless lives.
Edilia leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone she served so selflessly.
Edilia was predeceased by her parents, Napoléon Alvarez and Luz Maria Estrella, and her son, Henry Perez.
She is survived by her son George Perez and his wife Brenda, her granddaughters Nicole Perez and Stephanie Perez, her siblings Miledy, Antonia, Arquimede, Josefina, Raul, Antonio, and Cristobal and countless nieces and nephews who loved her endlessly.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation will on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, form 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ana Maria Zevallos/Skrocki, Home for funerals, 467 State Street Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.
