Dolores Ortiz

Dolores Ortiz, 91, of Perth Amboy, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ.

Born in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, Dolores moved to Perth Amboy in 1952, where he built a life centered around hard work, family, and community. For many years, he was employed at the American Smelting & Refining Company in Perth Amboy. Later, he worked as a skilled cabinetmaker for Shafferner Cabinet Co. in New Brunswick.

Dolores was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who always put his family first. He adored his mother and was deeply committed to helping others, whether by lending a hand around the neighborhood or cutting bushes for friends. Dolores found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including watching movies—he was an admirer of Marilyn Monroe—following baseball, and spending peaceful moments by the water, enjoying the sight of boats.

Dolores was predeceased by his parents, Antonio Ortiz and Generosa Garcia, as well as his three brothers, Félix Ortiz, Fermín Ortiz, and Antonio Ortiz.

He is survived by his five children: Osvaldo Ortiz, Miguel Ortiz and his wife Leticia, Marilyn and her husband Joel Pabón, Ruth and her husband Ángel Collazo, and Janet Berrios and her husband Richard Berrios. He also leaves behind four siblings: Hilda Garcia, Elba Ramos, Irma Garcia, and José Garcia, along with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ana Maria Zevallos/Skrocki Home for Funerals, 4657 State St., Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.

A private cremation.

Dolores will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his family, and the joy he brought to those who knew him.
