Aura Bencosme

Aura Bencosme, age 83, of Perth Amboy, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division.

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Aura moved to the United States in 1979 in pursuit of a better life for her family. She was a woman of deep Catholic faith, known for her unwavering devotion to God and her community. While in the Dominican Republic, she actively prepared children to receive their sacraments, nurturing their spiritual growth with love and dedication.

A proud and cherished member of the Altagracia group and the Legion of Mary, Aura's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She lived by example, always encouraging her children to be good citizens and strong in their beliefs. Her wisdom, warmth, and gentle guidance were a beacon that lit the way for those around her.

Aura will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her friendly nature, joyful spirit, and wonderful sense of humor made her beloved by all who knew her. She brought happiness and comfort to every room she entered.

She is predeceased by her parents, Angel Bencosme and Maria A. Camacho; and siblings Nidia, Leonardo, Felix, Rafael, Doris, Bolivar and Josefina Bencosme.

Aura is survived by her three sons: Wilfredo Mena, Ramon Mena, and Anibal Mena; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Toña Bencosme, Carmen Bencosme, Nelsi Bencosme, Diacono Pablo Bencosme, Jose Bencosme, Amado Bencosme, Joselito Bencosme, Humberto Bencosme, Jose Pantaleon, and Gissela Lopez.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Ana Maria Zevallos/Skrocki Home for Funerals, 467 State St., Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 8:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 9:00 AM Mass at Saint John Paul II Parish, St. Stephen’s Church. Aura will be laid to rest at Alpine Cemetery.

Aura Bencosme’s life was a beautiful testament to faith, love, and family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
